Art
I am a science student. I've chosen to be one because I love logic. I love it when things go by as written. Art doesn't. While science is subjective, art is objective. Every single art has lovers and haters. There is no single source of truth for art. Yet, we crave more art than science. Why?
I've heard somewhere that we start understanding art once something extraordinary happens. It could be something good or something bad, but it has to break our scales of understanding. Then we look at art with awe.
When we were kids, we had an infinite scale cause we felt everything was possible. From me becoming jobless to me becoming a superstar. The scale has no ends. Hence we feel everything's logical. We didn't experience art to its endless bounds because we were bound by logic.
Sure, when we see something beautiful, we experience happiness. But as much when you are self-reliant, having not enough friends, no good food, too many hours of work and you get a small flower flying towards you from a cool breeze. The feel of art is immense when the scale has boundaries. You think everything outside that is straight hell.
But as you expand the scale through experiences of art one by one, your hope grows. You become happier, wiser, and stranger. Yes, you will be a stranger because others can't contemplate your scale. Hence we hold ourselves from not growing it because we don't wanna be strange. We want to be predictable, visible, and closed.
The art makes you open to all this world. You start becoming familiar with everyone though you previously felt them to be stranger. The bubble grows and grows.
And once it pops, all hell breaks loose. You will be the strangest of all, and the most beautiful.
