Backlash

Uninstalling Instagram felt good for a couple of days. Got back hours and hours of scrolling time to do other stuff. But, what other stuff to do? I only know spending time on social media whenever I'm free, stressed, happy, sad, excited, or scared. That means I start unlocking my phone the moment I feel anything. All that momentum crashed back into me after about a week of getting out of Instagram. Two scenarios Everything boiled down to two situations. One, whenever I'm relieved from work, I open the app as it decreases my mental task of thinking for me, pushing content into my brain automatically. Two, whenever I had a couple of seconds here or there (standing in the lunch line, waiting for people to join a meet), I opened the app to get a quick emotional boost. I've started using YouTube shorts as a fallback for both of them. I'll explain how my brain kicked back in those two situations. First - Longer hours In the first case, once I completed a physically or mentall...

Social Media Drug

Psychedelic drugs are harmful. They will take you to a higher emotional state for a certain period. Adrenaline gets pumped into the blood and that feels exhilarating. Once you get back to your normal "true" self, everything feels boring. You crave not for the drug but for the experience it gives. That is what happens with social media too. I got to talk to people who I hadn't spoken to for years. Adding to it, I got to make new friends. It was fun. It was exciting. That high had to be taken up much higher. Hence came new social media strategies. Best of all was TikTok. Apps understood it worked and everyo...

WEEK-IN #32

There had been a long gap. I did break the WEEK-IN project. Yet, it was huge learning in these couple of months. Change We are living beings who thrive on this planet. Living beings evolved for billions of years and will keep evolving for another billion. But, this is not as if we change every 100 years. We change every day. We adapt to what's happening, to sustain an unexpected tomorrow. That is what happened to me in these previous couple of months. A drastic change that my brain couldn't handle. Is change necessary? Absolutely. But, how come we don't accept it. Cause we are scared of a future being created by a new self. So we hold onto our existing thought process and to our old beliefs. Yet! This world is always moving forward where you are holding yourself back to an unchanged self. That's scarier than jumping onto a new side. I held onto my old self for so long that once I go to know that I'll have to change to adapt, my brain couldn't process stuff. Anxi...
