Harry Potter series (Books)

I have to specifically mention books as, the moment people look at the first three words, they think it's movies. I am talking here about the seven-part book series though.

Of course movie series seem to be awesome too, though I don't remember watching all eight parts as it came out when I was in school and I wasn't much of a fan of Hollywood movies. After schooling, the hype gradually settled down which never pushed me to watch it. Books are a different story though.

I knew Harry Potter was one of the highest-selling book collections ever, yet I was not too deep into children's fiction and that too never read such a long series. I held back. One time, when I was in a casual conversation with my cousin, he got to know that I read books but never have I touched Harry Potter. That was enough for him to ignite the long rant of why I should read it. Though he is a decade younger than me, he had taken time (hours) to explain why it's the best of the best. So, I thought of giving it a try.

I am a slow reader. I read a book a month. But I was reading this series one book every week. There had been cases when I kept reading till late in the night. The whole story was fascinating to me.

Here are a couple of things that might have hooked me to the series

  1. Adventures are all over the place. Starting from the first book, there is always one or the other adventure the characters do which feels exciting. The Author never left a gap between those adventures too. Just connects.
  2. Enough time for each character. You feel connected to almost every single character. No character is left out. They get their own emotional connection story.
  3. This series is built on pure magic. Unlike other fantasy series I have read, this feels as if everything's happening in real life but you are left out of it for a reason (Cause you are a Muggle. Harry Potter fans will get this pun). A thin line of connection to reality pulls the story forward.

Others might have other reasons, but the above are some of mine for pushing me to read the whole thing in 2 months. By the end of every series, I could hardly name three characters. This one's different though; I feel I could name almost 90% of them.

It had now become my favorite series. I'm happy that I have conversations with others about books they love, which gives me insight into what could be my next.

  1. Love this Rahul. Keep reading !! Though I was never into reading books so much, I am 100% in favor of books over movies. They add a whole new dimension of your imagination of the characters or setting. Watching a movie doesn’t have the same impact that a book does.
