WEEK-IN #15

Just a random story which made me smile.

We are growing

Yesterday, I was driving in a slow moving traffic. Traffic was so slow that I could walk faster. Vehicles were honking everywhere. Among all these sounds, I could hear an Ambulance siren somewhere far away. I could see the road is all packed atleast for half a kilometre in front and a kilometre behind me. The obvious thought was that the Ambulance is going to take hours to cross all this, and no one even know the situation of the patient. What if every single vehicle moved aside as soon as they hear the siren. That of course wouldn’t happen in India, cause we would like to create our own rules. There wasn’t much I could do, so I was checking the Ambulance once every couple of minutes. It was 500 meters behind me. Then, the miracle.

In next 15 minutes, Ambulance had crossed me and in next 10 minutes, it was already out of sight. That was strange. No vehicle should be moving that fast as per what we know about Indian drivers, even if that’s an Ambulance. I was confused for a moment.

Then, I could see the reason for it to be that fast. Not everyone on the road are ready to give space. But, the couple of vehicles in front of the Ambulance were moving aside so fast, that the vehicle didn’t even slow down. It was fascinating to watch the traffic creating a pocket just enough for it not to slow down at all.

We Indians do not like to follow rules. We would like to lead every other person, and that’s a gift to this land. Every one of us are capable of making quick decisions to some extent, that the ripple effect is massive. We are not dumb. Being in the Second largest populated country where every single person is capable of taking decisions by their own is an achievement no other country can even dream of. We are just confused on how to utilise all this talent. I am sure that there will be a day where India exceeds everyone’s expectations. Till then, KEEP GROWING.
