Harry Potter series (Books)

I have to specifically mention books as, the moment people look at the first three words, they think it's movies. I am talking here about the seven-part book series though. Of course movie series seem to be awesome too, though I don't remember watching all eight parts as it came out when I was in school and I wasn't much of a fan of Hollywood movies. After schooling, the hype gradually settled down which never pushed me to watch it. Books are a different story though. I knew Harry Potter was one of the highest-selling book collections ever, yet I was not too deep into children's fiction and that too never read such a long series. I held back. One time, when I was in a casual conversation with my cousin, he got to know that I read books but never have I touched Harry Potter. That was enough for him to ignite the long rant of why I should read it. Though he is a decade younger than me, he had taken time (hours) to explain why it's the best of the best. So, I thought o...

HandiCAPPED

We keep looking for exciting times so much that we take our normal days for granted. Going for a movie, walking at a park, dinner at a restaurant. This doesn't seem trivial. But here are people who have to take extra steps and plan extensively just to buy groceries from the corner shop. For them, having a meal at a crowded restaurant feels like climbing Mt Everest. Here is a story of my friend Sravya, where she had to experience such moments for a couple of moments, which completely changed her perspective towards the Handicapped. The Injury Sravya always likes to be productive. The sense of achievement is what gives her a good sleep every night. For such a woman came a day of utter despair that she couldn't walk for months due to an injury to her leg. Bedridden was she, unable to move even for a bottle of water. There always had to be a person with her to help as even a slight movement might increase the days of her rest. hence, started the injured journey months come by. Look...

Deep Conversations

I in general am far from conversations. I like to be myself in my thoughts rather than to talk with others however close they are. But, there are multiple instances where there were such deep conversations that I spoke my heart out while enjoying the conversation to the utmost detail. This is about one of those instances. Three friends and I went to Gokarna to chill for three days. We haven't stayed at the crowded locations of Gokarna but found an off-beat stay that has an open restaurant, and the beach is about 100 meters. You can't see the beach from the restaurant as that patch of land is filled with trees, yet you feel the breeze through the shivering trees and smell the ocean. We middle-class people understand a vacation as covering as many locations as possible. Vacation ends up as another hustle of waking early, hurrying at every location as we might miss places in the itinerary, and sleeping late. Less sleep, less relaxation, more places, and pictures. So, when we four...

Executing your Passion

I'd like to tell you a story. Just a random incident, which stuck with me. A couple of months ago, I went to a shopping mall in Bangalore. I was just passing the time while my friends were buying clothes for an event. While I was crossing a shop in the mall, a lady in her 40s with a jute bag on her shoulders, walked towards me. I'll be all honest, I thought she came to me to sell some random product that I'm definitely not gonna buy and I am gonna waste my time explaining to her why I can't buy that product. She said that she stays nearby to the mall, and comes to the same spot once in a while to promote her Youtube channel. By all means, I was shocked. I thought marketing a youtube channel is done only through social media for the most part. Yet, here I am looking at a 40+ lady waiting in the mall, in her simplest dressing style, promoting her youtube channel. My introverted mind could never have done anything like that even to my closest friends. She was doing all tha...

WEEK-IN #36

New Journey New journeys are interesting. Not only the ones you travel around the planet but also the ones that travel around you. Moving to a new school, a new house, a new bike, a new city. Any of those might be what you are thinking of and that always excites you. But, the more you cook it the hotter it gets. One disappointment and all that excitement fall apart. Then, how to experience the joy? Just to make it clear, let's take an example. You and your friends plan for a trip. Everything's packed and ready to rock for the next couple of days. Started your trip with your friends on an overnight journey. Had a lot of fun on that ride chatting about the good old days. Morning, all of you checked in to a preplanned hotel. It is then you have come to know that the food isn't good. Your mind unknowingly takes you down the path of thoughts about eating the same food the whole trip. Fun, which you all were expecting fissile out. Though you people are visiting places, you keep d...

Multiple Factors We consider factors while picking an option from a list for a problem. If you want to go out to eat, you might consider the Weather, Traffic, Time of the day, etc. We always filter out using factors that influence our mood. The issue arises when it is a difficult problem and a hell lot of factors are involved. Why is that an issue? Let's say you would like to pick a course to study. The list of factors might be "Do you like the course", "Will the course be helpful for my career", "Should I be picking a different course for the career I'm currently pursuing", "Should I change my career as per the course", "Am I even capable of changing the course later on". The list goes on and on. In such cases, we tend to strip[ everything down to one factor and move on. That works fine in certain situations as we humans tend to simplify stuff. But, Is that fine always? For example, you see an accident happen to a stranger whil...

WEEK-IN #34

These days, I keep reminding myself that... Things Take Time Time. We all think it is of abundance, but in reality, it is finite. Seconds pass by without reminding us that they don't come back. I don't want to talk about the things we do for fun, but the things we would like to get done as soon as possible.  Of course, we all have at least one thing that takes a hell of a time and we hate it. Either it's your exam which goes on for weeks making you bear the stress for that long, or it's your career which is taking years to grow. The finite time keeps rolling down in front of your eyes without showing any visible progress. It's hard and tiring. We don't have a choice. But, do hold on. Walking on a path for 8 years and you taking a daring step to picking a different one now will be difficult. Backlash, self-doubt, and fear are all consequences. But, hold on. Time is what you'll have to pay to get the things to settle down. There will always come a day when eve...
